One from the memory... we had often travelled to our away matches by train and it would stop in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason and wait for who knows what. I had no problems sleeping on a moving train but these pauses would inevitably wake me up.

Barn swallow
I can't seem to find words to write anything meaningful (or foolish for that matter) so a pic of this fella will have to suffice. Swallows are among my favourite birds and I'm always pleased to see them in spring and throughout summer when they raise their young and prepare them for a long journey south.

I must be crazy
I have always enjoyed watching all kinds of sports but have never been fanatic about anything. However, these last few days I have been thoroughly immersed in the action. Perhaps because of our national team's participation in the World Cup football which has obsessed the nation. People are proud of 'our boys' and their achievement even though they had to leave after the group stage (which, to be honest, is where we objectively belong). However, with a little bit of luck it could have been the minuscule Slovenia (which is not the same as Slovakia - the latter are still in the tournament) playing in the last 16.
Then there's Wimbledon. The only tennis tournament I remember watching on TV as a child and being fascinated by the spectale. The fascination has remained to date and it is still my favourite Grand Slam. And there has been plenty of drama already and an unbelievable match which is unlikely to ever be surpassed. 183 games played over the course of 3 days before one of the opponents finally succumbed.
So, if I'm not around much, I'm liklely occupied with watching one sport or the other in between work and keeping the house. The madness will soon be over anyway...

He almost passed out from the curglaff but the memory of her haimiah lap kept him awake while diving to retrieve the talisman she had lost when she and her lover capsized during their canoe trip. They were both rescued but not her auriferous stone. He'll show her why he was a thoroughbred golden retriever.
*
curglaff, n. the shock one feels when plunging into cold water
auriferous, adj. gold-bearing; a stone bearing gold
haimiah, adj. Warm and comfortable; homey; folksy

Nothing particular
It's not easy to come up with something with no fresh photos in stock (raining again the whole weekend). I'm getting used to the new acquiry but am finding out typing is a bit of a challenge. The placement of the keyboard is slightly different and I must be careful all the time - not that I have written much in these couple of days.
The rest of June (at least) is proving to be difficult at work and it may consume much of my energy. Then there's the World Cup which makes men (and some women too) football (soccer) crazy. Slovenia still has a chance to progress (in fact, everybody in this group does) but we mustn't lose against England in the last group match. Although things don't look too bright for the England team, they are a respectful opponent, and everybody knows a wounded lion is the most dangerous... I have mixed feelings about the match with the USA. After a firm first half lead an early US goal at the beginning of the 2nd turned things around and it ended 2:2 adn we could have easily lost the match alltogether. In fact, I have to admit I have no idea why the 3rd American goal was disallowed (am glad it was, though, although I would rather have it end without controversy).
Somebody (you know who you are) asked about 9 pin bowling. Well, I thought I would attach a video to get an impression how it looks like. Each competitor has 120 balls on 4 lanes, 30 on each, and the total score counts.

Back (sort of)
I knew for a while that I would have to get a new laptop as the old one had been on the brink of collapsing. However, I did nothing until the thing finally died, taking along some 1000 photos and a few drafts without backup.
So off it was in search of a replacement. I had no particular preferences and /or prejudices, not enough time, even less knowledge but I hope I'll be satisfied with what I finally decided on. It is a Vaio, not the cheapest one but seems good value for the money. Besides, it comes with the extended 3 year guarantee.
Anyway, since I had only limited internet access from work while waiting for a friend to set everything up (which always takes longer than anticipated), I'm trying to catch up with things while getting used to the new thing but I expect to be back to the regular schedule (whatever that is supposed to be) during the weekend. I still have some things to figure out and some stuff to install, though.

Because you asked for it
Unofficial Microfiction Monday
Still no time for visiting others so I'm not signing in this time...

What a strange place! First I ask for a couple of burritos down at the inn which are never delivered and now you two keep following me!

Back!
Exhausted. Sore. Feeling the muscles I didn't know I had. Hell, I'm too old and out of shape for this kind of stuff, the old recurring injuries not helping one jot.
Was busy for the best part of 3 days speeding around sites, cheering on teammates in different sports, transferring people from one site to another a few kilometres away, had my car crapped all over by a gull, hardly slept at all because of the all-night noise, and yet managed to win the bowling (the 9-pin variety, much more physically demanding) competition with my team - one of which had to attend a wedding party later in the day and the other barely out of the sick bed - plus win gold for the best individual score.
So, mostly I had a good time but need to rest and get some sleep before work early tomorrow.

Martha complained about Robert being such a panjandrum.
Robert complained about Martha's constant jeremiads.
Their friends thought matching them up was a fatuity.
Little did they know that the pair had acted it all out in order to make them confess their dirty little secrets and thrive on the fortune they'd collect with the blackmail.
